Wellfleet Trivia – Did you Know?

Did you know that 70% of Wellfeet is protected land, and nearly half of that is protected by the Cape Cod National Seashore. Wellfleet is known for its oysters and is how the early economy was kept alive. Wellfleet was home to 30 Whaling Ships during the American Revolution. Whaling has since been stopped buy oyster farming is still in full force. The first radio telegraph transmission from America to England was sent from Marconi Station (just across the street!) on January 18, 1903, a ceremonial telegram from President Theodore Roosevelt to King Edward VII. Wellfleet has the second largest concentration of art galleries of all towns on Cape Cod. Pretty cools stuff right!?
